Longtime Highland Park business The Silk Thumb, 1822 2nd St., closed on Saturday, March 29. A staple in the Highland Park community since 1981, and owned by Julie Brugioni since 2007, the silk flower and custom arrangement shop was hit hard by both the economic recession and this year’s harsh winter.

Brugioni said that she made the tough choice to close The Silk Thumb, where she has worked since 1995, three weeks ago.
