Nick Curley was the original organizer of “100 Miles for Danny”, when he was just 7 years old. He skated that first year alone, all 100 miles.

After the sudden death of his 4-year-old son on Dec. 12, 2009 because of a sudden epileptic seizure, Mike Stanton wrote at the conclusion of his obituary: “Please go out and enjoy your life. Danny did.”

Maureen O’Donnell of the Sun-Times was touched by those words and wrote an obituary for her newspaper. An Associated Press reporter picked up on her obituary and did a story that went out to papers all over the country on Christmas Eve.
