As Nashville artist Adam Yarger played guitar, a nearby mechanical bull bucked back and forth while people ate pork sliders and sipped Tennessee whisky in the rear parking lot of the Toadstool Pub and Marco’s Northside Grill.

It wasn’t a typical evening in Highwood — it was the middle of Nashwood, the annual event that brings a taste of Nashville to the North Shore for Labor Day weekend. Spanning Friday evening to Sunday afternoon, Nashwood featured free live music, Southern-style food, mechanical bull-riding and two-step dance lessons.
