From Buckingham Fountain to New York City’s Freedom Towers, David Schwarz has seen it all.

Schwarz, a former deputy police chief for Highland Park, rode his bike 1,256 miles in just 31 days to raise money for cancer research as a way to “pay back the good treatment and service and everything I got from the doctors and hospital.”

It all started when Schwarz saw a fellow sergeant on the police force lose his battle with melanoma shortly after retiring.
