As the school year comes to a close and prom and graduation round the corner, Highland Park officials and residents are increasing awareness of youth drinking, which tends to spike during the season. 

At an April 11 city council meeting, youth drinking overshadowed a decision to post gender-neutral signage on city single-occupancy restrooms, and it drew the opinions of Police Chief Paul Shafer and Mayor Nancy Rotering, who spoke out against the sudden spike in teen drinking.
