Richard Slavin left Highland Park 43 years ago to go on a trip to Europe with two of his friends. Although that trip was only supposed to last for a couple of months, he never ended up moving back to Highland Park. While there, Slavin hitchhiked to India and eventually built a life as an international humanitarian. During his time in India, he has been instrumental in starting a mid-day meal program for more than a million school kids across India. He was also influential in the founding the Bhaktivedanta Hospital in Mumbai.
