The bygone witnesses to a sinking vessel and the heroic rescue that followed may have thought they had just seen history, but in a presentation for the Highland Park Historical Society on June 28, Highland Park Resident Steven Draska described how the event, like the ship itself, became somewhat lost over time.

Draska, one of the original members of the Chicago Maritime Society, spoke at the Highland Park Library about his years of research on the November 28, 1889 wreck of the Steamer Calumet.
