It was the beginning of the end of the historic but battered Highland Park Theater Friday, June 11, when construction crews began demolition of the 90-year-old theater by removing the iconic marquee.

In May 2016, the Highland Park City Council chose a multi-purpose development over luxury condos and a hotel to replace the theater.

Last week, Mayor Nancy Rotering released a statement in coordination with the pending razing.
